Commentary of selections from Imam Nawawi’s 40 Hadith.
The Prophet (upon him be peace) said whosoever preserves 40 hadith shall be reckoned from amongst the scholars. To diffuse the lights of divine guidance scholars compiled various collections from the vast hadith literature – the most famous of these compilations is the 40 hadith of Imam al-Nawawi. This course will attempt to cover some of the lessons and meanings of the hadith contained in this illuminated collection making use of various commentaries. Students will also be encouraged to memorise the hadith.
The Classification of Hadith (al-Mustalah al-Hadith)
The Companions of the Prophet (upon whom be peace) struggled relentlessly to gather the sayings of the Prophet. They traversed immense distances, underwent untold hardships and visited strange lands with the sole intention of preserving the second most important source of the religion of Islam after the Quran, the Sunnah – the traditions of the Prophet.
This course deals with how Allah preserved this Deen through the preservation of the chains of narration – al-Sanad.
Imam Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak mentions : ‘That if it was not for the sanad any one who pleases would have said whatever he pleases’.
This course is primarily about the classical hadith classifications of our scholars and the differing ways in which they have viewed the sanad and practically implementing the saying of the Prophet (upon whom be peace) : ‘Whom so ever lies in regard to what I have said let him take his place in the hellfire’ (al-Bukhari and Muslim).
Learn how the hadith of the Prophet (PBUH) are incorporated into the classical four schools of law (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi & Hanbali)
